Having an Instinct to ship

Posted by

I want to talk today about this quality. And that is the quality of having an instinct to ship.

To not worry for perfection and just put your work out in the world and improve upon it as you go.

I am currently reading the book Atomic Habits by James Clear. In chapter 11 of the book the author tells about the concept which is similar to this idea of “Quantity leads to quality”.

I have experienced it myself. If I try to sit and write a perfect article I would never be able to hit the publish button. But I never strive to write perfect. I just strive to write.

My writing gets improved automatically as I write more. And I have to admit it has improved a lot from the posts I wrote 3-4 years ago.

So there is definitely truth in the statements like:

You can’t fix what you don’t ship. ~Chalene Johnson

You can’t improve any habit that hasn’t established yet. ~ James clear

So yeah! It is better to write everyday and just hit publish than waiting to write perfectly and never hitting publish in fear of imperfection.
